Benjamin G. Young is the current Executive Director of the International MetaSUB Consortium and has held leadership roles in academia, startups, and biotech industry in New York City.
Benjamin grew up in London, England before moving the to suburbs of Boston, USA at age 12. Benjamin studied biophysics with a focus on lipid membrane ion transport at Syracuse University. As an undergraduate Benjamin worked with the student lead EMS service, Syracuse University Ambulance, as a volunteer EMT. Following graduation Benjamin moved to Gwangju, South Korea to teach English and Science.
Benjamin moved to New York City in 2015 and was immediately immersed in the growing life sciences community in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Aside from his heavy involvement in academic life science at Columbia and Weill Cornell, Benjamin has also been involved in industry organizations such as NewBioCity and Xconomy.
Benjamin is a regular reviewer of draft metagenomics publications, is an advisor to Flora Robotics, and teaches immunology at Touro College.
